About Jakia

Jakia Lindley was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and raised in Canton, Ohio—birthplace of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. She studied criminal justice and psychology at the American Military University before switching her focus to business management. She began writing her debut memoir shortly after witnessing fellow brothers- and sisters-in-arms repeatedly report as missing.

Known to my family and friends as “Kia”, and for a time was known as “slim”, I grew up in a single parent home with my two other siblings. From an early age, I dreamed of being a judge, an attorney, or somehow being a part of something bigger than myself. I have always wanted to protect and serve my community and  eventually found my calling in the Air Force (after being enticed by a free backpack from a recruiter). That was 10 years ago—and I’m still in service.

I am currently finishing my debut memoir, War at Home: Break the Silence, Destroy the Stigma, End the Cycle. Aside from writing, my passions in life are uplifting others, teaching (Certified Master Resiliency Trainer and Certified Department of Defense Sexual Assault Victim Advocate), fine food and wine, art, music, and last but certainly not least binge-watching my favorite shows.
